AudioFX Pro 5+1 PC Gaming Headset by Ben Heck
November 05, 2007

Conclusion:

We reviewed an eDimensional AudioFX headset back in 2005, and while you can see some similarities, there has been quite an evolution in just over two years! The AudioFX Pro 5+1 PC Gaming Headset by Ben Heck offer many features that would appeal to anyone in need of a new audio solution for their PC gaming setup. Among other things they are comfortable, attractive, provide a convincing surround sound effect, and you don't need to worry about the quality of your sound card since one isn't needed at all. And a major plus for me as someone who doesn't speak that often in games is that the microphone is situated off to the side and can be swiveled up to get it completely out of your field of view.

I only had two issues that really got to me, but in all honesty they may not matter to anyone else interested in such a headset. One issue was that there are a total of 17 LEDs, and I don't see the point of any of them. The overall design is rather refined, and all the blinking LEDs just seem to take away from that. The other issue I experienced was that my ears got hot rather quickly since they were so well insulated inside the ear cups. This didn't disrupt my game play or music enjoyment, but once I took the headset off it seemed like an hour before my ears had cooled to their normal temperature, and that was a bit annoying.

Crazy PC sells the AudioFX Pro 5+1 PC Gaming Headset by Ben Heck for $59.99. This is not only a great price when looking at the same model at other online outlets, but it is also quite competitive when compared to other 5.1 channel headsets out there.

Considering the impressive performance of the AudioFX Pro 5+1 PC Gaming Headset by Ben Heck, they earn the awards of "Recommended" and "Gaming Approved".

Pros:

» No sound card required
» Microphone isn't right in your face, and can be swiveled totally out of the way
» Ear cups eliminate outside noise an immerse you in the gaming environment
» Impressive audio in games and other multimedia applications
» Force feedback works well without being too intense
» Surround sound effect is very convincing
» In-line volume control adjusts Windows volume
» Color scheme gives this set a more sophisticated look

Cons:

» So well insulated that ears get hot quickly
» All the LEDs detract from sophisticated look
