Ultra Products X-Finity 500W PSU with Active PFC

Cables:

The cables are definitely what you would expect on a X-Finity power supply, using the attractive and functional FlexForce design. The silver cables emerge from the housing without much excitement, simply bound together with a black zip tie as they pass through a hole trimmed out with a plastic band that should eliminate the possibility of the cables being abraded by the metal edge of the housing.

The following is a list of all connectors available on this power supply: (1) 20/24 Pin Motherboard Connector, (1) 4 Pin +12V Motherboard Connector, (8) 4 Pin Molex Connectors, (2) 4 Pin Floppy Power Connectors, (2) PCI Express Connectors, (4) SATA Connectors, (1) 8 Pin EPS Connector.

The below left image shows off four of the cables, including (from top to bottom): the 8-pin EPS connector (which can be split into two 4-pin connectors), the 20/24 pin motherboard connector, and the two PCI-E connectors, each of which is labeled to indicate what 12V rail they are associated with. The below right image shows the balance of cables, including (from top to bottom): two leads with four 4-pin connectors and a floppy connector on each, as well as two leads with two SATA connectors on each.

The cables are all well finished with attractive black connectors on the FlexForce cabling, and the lengths of all cables are more than adequate. Owners of smaller cases may find the cables to actually be too long, and in a full tower case I was easily able to reach drives in the lower front corner.

Internal Inspection:

A power supply review wouldn't be complete without taking a look under the cover. With the warranty voided we are able to check out the internal components. The image below shows the backside of the 135mm fan and the eleven blades which should be able to move a decent amount of air, even at lower speeds. The balance of components in the power supply are all well laid out and orderly, and nothing really jumps out as out of the ordinary.

The FlexForce cables are wrapped neatly on one side with a few cable ties before they terminate, and a handful of golden colored aluminum heatsinks are neatly arranged between other components. If you look closely you will see clear plastic shields installed to eliminate the risk of electrical shorts caused by components touching the housing or other items.

Overall the internal features weren't too exciting (no variable potentiometers for one thing), but the neat and clean arrangement tells me something positive about quality and the attention to detail that went into this unit.
