Multimedia Connection/Set-up:
After you've loaded all your pictures, music, and videos, you simply hook the appropriate cables to your TV. In my case I connected this device through my Onkyo HT receiver to a Toshiba 36" SD tube TV so I used the composite video, stereo cable, and digital coax cable. Once connected you hit the power button on the remote and you'll see the splash screen as it "boots" up. After that, you'll see a screen with four tabs along the top, Video, Music, Photos and Play list.
 
Using the remote you can also access the setup menus that allow you to change the video output (type of screen, resolution etc) and audio output.
 
They were even smart enough to make this "idiot proof." Just in case you pick a resolution that isn't supported by your TV, you can simply hit the video button on the remote to cycle through the options back to something that is supported. I thought this was a great idea, especially if this is used on SD and HD TV's, you could easily forget to change the resolution back. The menus are clear and simple, as are the remote operations. The only drawback was the remote range; anything past 10 feet is pushing it.
Music:
I loaded around 15GB of music and was excited to sit down and let the AVOX randomly play tracks so I could determine the playback quality for various genres. The problem is that there is no random play unless you make a play list through the AVOX. The next issue is that all play lists are temporary, as soon as you cycle the power they are gone. It also doesn't support play lists that you could develop on your PC like my Series 2 Tivo does. This made playback a bit tedious, though the sound quality is very good. The device also supports music playback without a TV if music is put in a folder called "music" in the root directory, though once again the music only plays sequentially.
Photos:
The AVOX also allows you to view your photos on your TV and present a slide show. I found the interface to be very easy to operate, but it had very few features to optimize it for your individual needs. For instance, if you start a slide show you can pause or go forward and back through the collection, but you can't control how fast it cycles through the pictures or if it randomly selects a picture in that folder. They do allow you to play music during a slide show, but the music has to be in the "music" folder at the root and again starts playing from the beginning in sequential order. Unfortunately for me, this happens to be songs from A Perfect Circle, and that might not work with too many slide shows. I would prefer to be able to turn this feature on/off or select the music that is appropriate.
