The Basics:
A quick glance at the TLD-3500 tells me the unit arrived undamaged. In the below left image you can see the top of the enclosure, which serves as the main access point, and it can be easily removed by four thumbscrews. On the front of the unit you can see the power and link/activity LEDs. Other than these LEDs, the front cover has an array of holes which allows air to move through the enclosure for cooling.
With the cover removed, I found the side panels were also removable, and they easily slide in/out at the thumbscrew locations. In the second picture you can see one of the sides. Once again, there are many holes to aid in cooling.
On the back of the enclosure you can see the important connections. On the left we have the RJ45 Ethernet connection, next is the power connection, and then we have the USB 2.0 connection. Next to the USB 2.0 connection is a power switch. In the second picture you can see the final side, the bottom of the enclosure. Once again there are ventilation holes, a 40mm fan exhaust, and there is also a place to write the device ID.
Before moving to the internal components, there are some included accessories to consider. First we have a well written manual which includes pictures for every step of the installation. We also have an installation CD, a screw driver, power supply, a USB cable, an RJ45 Ethernet cable, and a stand.
With the top cover removed we see that there is not much to the insides of the unit. Internally we have a single PCB that will act as the hard drive controller, a short 80-pin IDE cable, a cable with 4-pin connector for power, and the power cable for the front LEDs.
