The Basics:
The first thing that caught my attention on the HR-01 was the size of it. I was expecting a large cooler, but it's not as large as I really expected. Usually big coolers are very wide, which creates potential space issues. The HR-01 is different in that it is much taller than it is wide, just like a high rise office building is. While this will not cause any issues with space around the cooler, you should be aware that it might not fit in small cases.
The side view of the cooler is pretty plain, however you can see the four heat pipes that draw the heat away from the base and distribute it through the many fins. If you look closely, Thermalright has installed spacers that help ensure the fins stay separated by the proper distance.
On the top of the cooler you have the ends of the heat pipes. There are also 50 holes that go all the way through each of the fins on the heat sink. This should allow some additional heat to escape and be vented off the cooler.
Here you can see the bottom portion of the cooler. On the top of the base there is a little dimple that the mounting bracket sits in. The bottom of the heatsink is perfectly smooth, and has a brushed aluminum look to it. It does not have a mirror finish at all. As mentioned in the specifications, the base is made of copper, with nickel plating.
