Conclusion:
When I was approached to take a look at the Tagan Turbo Jet 1100W TG1100-U95, I was unfamiliar with the brand and was cautiously optimistic. I took a chance on them, and I am glad I did. This is one of the finest power supplies I have seen. I will be watching Tagan to see what they do next! This power supply has everything you can ask for... long cables, a sufficient number of connectors, stable power and 4 PCI-E connectors.
Although appearance may be important to some, what is more important is the amount of power provided, the quality of that power, and the overall efficiency. The Tagan TurboJet excels in every one of these categories. With 1,100W of power, and 20A to each of the 12V rails, you can be sure that you will have plenty of power for a long time. Providing a lot of power does not mean anything if it is not stable. Each of the rails fluctuated less than 0.5% between idle and load conditions. Finally, if the power supply does not use that power efficiently, you will be wasting money. Tagan does a great job at using the power efficiently, providing around 80% efficiency.
I have yet to find a power supply that is 100% perfect, as any one unit will not meet every need or desire. While there is nothing wrong with this unit, there are a few things that I would have changed, and most of them could be considered personal preference. First, I would make sure the cables are 100% wrapped. While the wrapping on the cables is great, it stops at the first connector and I would like to see the cables wrapped between each of the connectors. While we are discussing the cables, let's look at the SATA connectors. Again, they are near perfect, and the only change I would like to see is to make them right angle connectors, which helps with routing of the cables.
A search of PriceGrabber did not return any results for the Tagan Turbo Jet 1100W TG1100-U95. The Tagan website lists a few US retailers that sell Tagan power supplies, but none of them had the 1100W Turbo Jet for sale. Some retailers did however have the 900W version for sale for about $320 to $350. I would expect the 1100W version to be a bit more expensive, possibly around $400 to $500. After reviewing the 1000W units from CoolMax and Enermax, this estimated price range would not surprise me for a power supply as powerful and stable as the Tagan TurboJet 1100W.
Update... Newegg.com now carries the 1100W TurboJet Power Supply for $399.99, bringing it in just below the price range I estimated.
Given the performance, and overall features I award the Tagan TurboJet 1100W power supply the rating of "Highly Recommended".
