Seagate is one of the premiere names in hard drives for just about all applications, with solutions for personal, business, and enterprise settings. From previous reviews, we are familiar with the performance of some of their desktop hard drives, but what about some of their other products? Instead of looking for bigger and faster, in this review we will take a look at a 2.5" 5400 RPM notebook hard drive... the Seagate Momentus 5400.2 120GB.
The Seagate Momentus 5400.2 120GB drive sports a 2.5" form factor intended for use in a notebook computer, but we have other things in mind for it. Many Mini-ITX systems utilize notebook hard drives in order to save space, allowing an extremely compact system to be created for use as a network appliance, a carputer, or an HTPC.
This drive will be evaluated in a Mini-ITX HTPC system that generates almost zero noise thanks to 100% passive cooling. Silent operation is critical for drives in such a system, and with no cooling available to the drive, they need to operate cool and quiet.
