Thermaltake Power Station 520W PSU
November 21, 2005

Conclusion:

This is a great power supply! I have no major issues with it, and have trouble finding a negative that is not due to personal preference. It does its job well enough that once it is up and running you won't even notice it's there. It adds no noise to a case (I was not able to distinguish it even after unplugging all additional fans other than those that are required like video and CPU), and provides your components with stable power.

The modular capability of this unit is where it really shines; you can use any combination of the cables necessary for your unique setup. Removing extra cables is vital to improving airflow. The solid rubberized cable wrapping is a nice touch as it does help improve airflow and I feel it looks a lot nicer than mesh wrapping. My only complaint regarding the cables is that it would be nice to have an additional long, single connector, Molex cable. Not everybody would need this, but it is helpful to have for those situations where it is necessary.

The only real complaint I have is regarding the loss of a 5.25" drive bay for the Power Station. While this is necessary for how the power supply operates, it would be nice if the Power Station was a bit more useful, either by providing voltage pull, temperature probes, or a fan controller for the mini PST.

The Thermaltake Power Station 520w is pretty new and is just begining to be found online. A quick scan of Pricegrabber shows you can find this power supply ranging in price from $132.77 to $159.00. That's a big price range, but at any price this is a great power supply.

Overall, I have to give this 4.5 out of 5... "Recommended".

Final Rating (4.5 out of 5 stars):

Pros:

• Sufficient power connectors and long cables
• 24pin ATX and PCI Express SLI compatible
• Silent Operation
• Stable power - even when overstressing
• Rubberized Modular Cables

Cons:

• Additional long 4-pin Molex cable (personal preference)
• 5.25" Power Station front label was bent
• Loss of a 5.25" drive bay

Special thanks to Thermaltake for providing the Power Station 520W Power Supply to BigBruin.Com for review!
