Software:
Pertelian will include the necessary software in the retail box. However, you should check their website before installing so you can be sure to download the most recent version, if necessary.
Once you have the software installed and perform the required reboot, you can start the software and begin customizing your settings. If you start the device without the device plugged in you will receive an error that it can not find the COM port. Once you start the software with the device attached, you will be presented with the General Settings screen. Here you can change a few settings which includes the intro text, enable/disable media support, assign network settings, and adjust the scroll speed. One option to note is the "Software LCD Emulation Window" which will open a small window that looks similar to the screen on the device. It will act like the device, so you can see exactly what your options will look like.
Next we have the e-mail settings. Here you can configure your e-mail servers, and there is support for many e-mail accounts.
The next option allows you to configure hot keys to control various functions within the supported applications. Some of the applications that work with the hot keys are: Winamp, iTunes, and Windows Media Player. The next configuration screen allows you to configure Pertelian for instant messenger usage. Pertelian works with AIM, Yahoo Messenger, and GAIM.
The final configuration screen allows you to customize the settings for the plug-ins. As you can see here, Pertelian includes many pre-configured plug-ins. Pertelian has a SDK (Software Developers Kit) that allows you to create your own plug-ins. Once you create a plug-in you can submit it to the Pertelian Community Download Center where other Pertelian users can have access to it. If you are not comfortable developing your own plug-in, or you are having issues, Pertelian is there to help. Not only will they assist you in creating a plug-in, they also take suggestions for future development.
