The Basics:
The Nexstar GX came packed very nicely in a solid black box with just the Vantec name. Wrapped around the black box was a descriptive sleeve showing features, and the enclosure.
Inside, everything was packaged nice and tight. Included with the Nexstar GX is a small power supply, AC power cord, 6 foot USB cable, driver CD, manual, and a small hardware bag.
The enclosure itself is made of sturdy grey plastic and the lid is white with the Vantec name and symbol in grey across the top. Taking a closer look inside the enclosure shows that the hard drive itself is mounted in an aluminum half frame with fins across the bottom. The fins of the heatsink protrude out the bottom of the enclosure and aid in keeping the hard drive nice and cool.
The inside also include a small but powerful blower style fan, and associated circuit board. The board is bigger than most due to the fact that this drive enclosure also incorporates a 3 port powered USB 2.0 Hub.
Installing a hard drive in this enclosure is not real tough... The first step is to remove four screws that hold the heatsink to the bottom. Once the heatsink is free, the hard drive is screwed to it using another four low profile screws (included).
