Conclusion:
NHJ Limited has a very solid player on their hands. While the menu screens look pretty basic, the unit shines while playing audio and video. It has a few issues, which could easily be addressed by a firmware update, but it does have the potential to be a great player! With all of the necessary accessories and bundled software, the unit is worth consideration if you are in the market for such a device.
I really have only a few issues with the player, and both could easily be fixed. The first and biggest issue I have with this is the limited video playback options. This issue is mostly a personal preference, due to how I would use the player.
Next, and in my opinion the biggest issue, would be with the TV/DVR function and only being able to schedule one recording at a time. It should allow you to schedule the recording of more than one program. Even if you had to input the recordings into a text file, or some other file type, and manually load the file to the player, it would be better than only being able to schedule to record one thing at a time. On the TV side of the player, I would like some way to manually remove some channels from the lineup. When the player scanned my cable, it found 95 channels. Of those, I would only want 25 of those available to the player.
The NHJ MPM-201 is just starting to hit the US market, and is not found at many online retailers just yet. Geeks.com has it available for $189.99, which is far and away better than anything found while searching PriceGrabber. At this price, if you only used it as an MP3 player, it would still be a great deal!
Overall I have to give this a final score of 4 out of 5 stars, and a rating of "Recommended".
Final Rating (4 out of 5 stars):
Pros:
• DivX certified
• High quality audio/video/photo
• Great price!
Cons:
• No USB on docking cradle
• Only able to schedule one recording at a time
• Limited video playback options
