Docking Cradle:
In order to use the video recording capabilities, you have to use the docking cradle. The cradle is a very nice accessory to have. From the front of the unit you don't get to see what makes it so special, it looks like every other PDA/MP3 dock. The first thing I noticed that separates it is the viewing level of the cradle can be adjusted from a straight up position to about 45 degrees. This makes it nice so you can adjust the viewing angle to meet your specific needs. The other features on the front of the dock that caught my eye were the red "Record" button, and the little led light bar on the front edge of the unit.
The back of the unit is where all the magic happens on the cradle. It provides you with an s-video, a/v in and out, and an antenna/cable connection. One of the cable accessories that is included will convert the standard RCA plug to the headphone a/v plug. Sadly, this is the first place I was disappointed. I was surprised there was not a USB connection on the docking cradle. This really isn't too big of a deal, but was still a disappointment.
Looking at the cradle to MPM-201 connections, you can see there are two connections. They provide power and a/v connections from the cradle to the player. The MPM-201 slides into the cradle very easily and will not fall out because the edges of the cradle will cup around the unit.
The cradle also allows you to use the included remote. This is a full function remote as you can control all aspects of the unit while it is in the cradle. The remote only works with the cradle, so if you take the MPM-201 on the road, the remote does you no good.
