Enermax Laureate Drive Enclosures

Installation:

Once again I begin with the 5.25" external enclosure. For this enclosure I decided to use my NEC 3520A Dual Layer DVD Burner. In order to open the case, four small screws are removed and the case is slid open. The drive is then connected to the IDE cable and Molex connector. Four screws are used to fasten the drive into the enclosure; a very simple design. The images below show the final connections and the finished product.

Installation of the 3.5" External Hard Drive Enclosure wasn't quite as simple as the previous. For this I have two hard drives to test; one SATA and one IDE. Installations for each are similar with the exception of which cables to select. After connecting the cables to the hard drive, the drive is then screwed into place. This is where a tool free install would have come in handy. In order to screw the drive into place, the side plate is slid out and two holes are revealed on each side of the case. About half an inch inside the hole we see a place for the corresponding screw; this is where the hard drive is mounted. The image on the left shows where the screw will be inserted, while the image on the right shows the gap between the outer hole and the corresponding screws.

The only problem was getting the screw to balance on the end of the screw driver while lining up the hole with the hard drive. Not a difficult task, but could have been much easier. Once the hard drive is fastened down the case can be reassembled by sliding all the pieces back into place and snapping the top back on.

So now we have two complete installs, and a very sharp looking pair of drive enclosures. In addition to the metal stands, each enclosure comes with a set of rubber feat that allows for horizontal use, and also allows these two to stack nicely. The images below show the finished products using both the metal stands and the rubber feet.
