Transcend JetFlash 210 1GB Finger Print USB Flash Drive
August 15, 2006

The Basics:

Out of the packaging the Transcend JetFlash 210 doesn't look all that different from many flash drives out there, although it does have a unique coloring. The protective shell is (slightly) translucent plastic that looks black from some angles, but is most definitely chromed from other angles. The shell covers not only the USB connection, but the entire drive body except for the recessed circular area shown on the right. As mentioned, the orange disc indicates a 1GB model, and if that wasn't enough of a hint, "1GB" is stamped right in the middle.

The drive itself slides out of the shell to reveal the typical USB connector, which should be well protected when not in use. The drive pops into the shell with a reassuring click, letting you know that it is secure. And even though you could misplace the shell, the drive body itself is where you find a small notch for attaching to a key ring or lanyard.

From the side shown in the below left image the JetFlash 210 doesn't look like anything out of the ordinary, simply sporting the Transcend logo at the center of the housing.

The above right image is where things start to look interesting. The yellow stripe found in the grey recess is the finger print scanner. This is where you will be swiping your finger in order to access the special features and secured files on the device.

The image below is provided for a size reference. The JetFlash 210 is shown next to a SanDisk Cruzer Mini, which is one of the smaller flash drives out there. As you can see, the Transcend unit is just a bit larger, and can by no means be considered "big". They managed to cram the finger print scanning features into a housing that is about the size of your typical flash drive, which is obviously a good thing.

The next images shows some of the accessories included with the JetFlash 210. You have a heavy duty USB extension cable and a lanyard with a quick connect clip that allows you to keep the drive around your neck, but pop it off easily for use. Not pictured is the user's manual and mini CD containing an electronic copy of the user's manual and a partitioning tool.
