Transcend JetFlash 120 1GB Flash Drive
|
Performance:
The Transcend JetFlash 120 was tested using two different benchmarking tools familiar to most PC enthusiasts, SiSoft Sandra Standard and HD Tach v3.0. The results of the testing can be seen in the screen shots below. Benchmarks were taken on several machines with USB 2.0 functionality (and tested results were within +/- 1MB).

SiSoft Sandra verified an average write speed of 8MB/s while HD Tach showed an average read speed of 8.8MB/s. These numbers are just short of what Transcend advertises as the maximum transfer rates. Consumers should not put too much emphasis on these numbers when comparing different flash drives, and their relative speeds, because many factors including file size and file system (FAT16, FAT32, NTFS) can have huge impacts on flash drive performance.
Conclusion:
The Transcend JetFlash 120 performed slightly below the maximum specifications provided by Transcend, but considering the way so many factors can influence these benchmarks, it should not be a concern. The additional functionality of the bundled software definitely makes this product a better buy. Most users will appreciate the added value provided by the private password protected partitions more so than turning their flash drives into "keys" that unlock a computer system.
The JetFlash 120 series of flash drives are new and currently appear to be available only from the Transcend Online Store. The model reviewed here today (1GB) can be purchased for $75.00 from the store. For users looking for more or less space, the JetFlash 120 series has devices ranging from 128MB to 4GB.
The Transcend JetFlash 120 Flash Drive's good performance along with its useful software and competitive price earns it a perfect score of 5 stars and is "awarded a rating of "Highly Recommended".
Final Rating (5 out of 5 stars):
