Apple iPod Video
December 16, 2005

Conclusion:

I have to say I'm very impressed by the iPod Video. Apple has created a near perfect portable media player. The audio is great, and the video playback is great! There are always negatives, but the iPod Video is probably the closest to a perfect portable media player on the market. It does what it is intended to do, and does it incredibly well! For this reason I have to give it a near perfect score.

As shown by the success of video sales on iTunes, Apple could very well do for portable video what they did for portable music. I hope to see Apple greatly expand on their video catalog over the next several months (and beyond). Not just with music videos, but TV shows and movies. I'm sure that within a year we'll see the competitors to iTunes begin to offer similar programming.

Apple has taken into account all possible playback options for both audio and video. Most other players do really well in the audio playback, but fail to include the various playback options for the video. For me this is a requirement, and the biggest reason I would consider the iPod Video over other players. Granted, this is a personal preference because my main use is to listen to music videos while at work.

The biggest issue I have with the iPod Video is the battery life. Less than 3 hours for video playback is pretty limited, but is pretty standard for other portable video players. Other than that, I'd have to say additional accessories or a larger screen would improve the player, although I do understand why it is the way it is. Hopefully in future updates they will include a few other video formats such as Divx, Xvid, or MPG.

This is an incredible unit! I would have no issue in recommending this to anybody that is looking for a great MP3 / video player, with about $300 to spend (according to a search of PriceGrabber).

As perfect as the player is, I have to take away a few points because of the lack of accessories, and minimal video formats supported. Overall I have to give this a 4.5 out of 5... "Highly Recommended".

Final Rating (4.5 out of 5 stars):

Pros:

• Download videos via iTunes
• High quality audio/video/photo
• Sleek and classic design
• Ease of use

Cons:

• No AC Charger Included
• 4KB note filesize limitation
• Small Screen

Special thanks to my wife for providing the Apple iPod Video to BigBruin.Com for review!
