Procedure:
Since the fan is 8 inches in diameter, I'm going to cut the mesh and cover the fan with it. I highly recommend using only one layer because more than one will impede the air flow thus making the system very inefficient. Tape it down so that it won't come off when the fan is on. It should look something like this. The purpose of the mesh screen is to act as a dust filter. By doing this, you won't have to clean out your system that often or worry about the static that builds up due to dust particles. Before and after images below.
Next we prepare the plastic bag to connect the fan to the aluminum tube. The need for a plastic bag is crucial because it also helps to dampen the vibration caused by the fan. Start out with the plastic bag you have in mind, and then cut out a parallelogram shape as followed. I also suggest using one of those angle rulers to make sure that your bag won't turn out all crooked…looks very unprofessional. In this following drawing, I'm using the setup that would fit my fan only. You might have to make some necessary changes for other fans.
Now we prepare the "adapter" that will latch onto the 2 open bays that I have ready. We first begin with a soft sheet of aluminum which is quite malleable. I've measured out the sizes that you will need to cut out. Go ahead and cut out a sheet 11 ¾" X 9 ¼ ". It should look something like this.
Note: If you use three (3) bays, the dimensions won't be the same.
Cut on the dashed lines and fold on the solid lines.
After you're done with that go ahead and apply the silicon (helps with dampening the vibration) to the inner sides of the rectangle that you're making. It should look something like this:
