Thermaltake Eureka Aluminum Full Tower Case
June 17, 2006

Conclusion:

Thermaltake is well known for producing some extremely high quality components, and the Eureka holds true to Thermaltake's reputation. If you are looking for a top quality case for a home server, using boards up to extended ATX size, this is definitely the case for you. Even if you have a standard ATX motherboard, but want alot of room to work with inside, the Eureka may be the case for you. It's well built, and able to take some punishment without causing damage to your components. I would certainly not have any problem having this case sit in the family room or home office.

The similarities between the Eureka and the Thermaltake Shark are significant. In fact, if it wasn't for the size difference the only thing to distinguish them would be the design of the door and the motherboard tray. Everything else is virtually identical. The size is what makes this case different though; where the Shark can only hold up to full size ATX motherboards, the Eureka can hold extended ATX server motherboards.

As much as I like this case, there are a few minor issues. The biggest issue I have is with the motherboard tray. It feels very flimsy, and could benefit from handles such as on the Shark case. The second issue is with the 120mm intake fan filter; there should be a way to make cleaning it easier rather than taking off the front bezel.

A search of PriceGrabber shows this case sells for between $150 and $180 (US) at the time this review was completed. If you need a case that can fit up to an extended ATX motherboard, or simply want lots of interior room, this is a great case at a great price!

If you are looking for a case to hold up to an extended ATX motherboard, or if you just want a case with significant interior space, this case is perfect for you. It is easy to give the Thermaltake Eureka Aluminum Full Tower Case the award of "Highly Recommended"!

Pros:

» Large, fits up to extended ATX motherboard
» Lots of room
» Great airflow potential
» Convenient, nearly tool-less installation features
» Mounting for liquid cooling
» Storage of the 5.25" drive rails
» Very sturdy

Cons:

» Flimsy motherboard tray
» Must remove front panel to clean intake filter
» Not BTX compatible / upgradeable

Special thanks to Thermaltake for providing the Eureka Home Server case to Bigbruin.com for review!
