Enermax UC-12EB 120mm Enlobal Case Fan
|
The Basics:
With the fan and accessories out of the box we see it includes a 3-pin power connector, a 3-pin to 4-pin adapter, and 4 screws. It is good to see a 3 wire setup so any RPM monitoring software can read the speed in real time.
The fan blades are claimed to be cleanable, which can be a tough job when they are not removable and a few months of dust gets caked on to the blades. I have had some fans in the past where it was hard to get the entire length of the blades cleaned. With the detachable fan this task is much easier.
It took a little bit of force to remove the blades, but once they were off they could be cleaned with a can of air or even washed/soaked in water. The method used to remove the fan was to use two thumbs placed near the center of the fan 180 degrees apart, and push until it popped off. Looking at the chassis with the removed fan you can look into the enlobal bearing.
Installation:
For the installation I used the Enermax Chakra case mentioned previously. The installation of the two 120mm fans was quite standard. First I had to remove my hard drive cage and front panel of my case to install the front intake fan. I lined up the fan with the direction of flow to suck air into the case and secured it in place with the provided screws. After the fan was installed I replaced my hard drive cage and front panel.
The rear/exhaust fan was a little easier to install due to the fact that there wasn't anything that had to be removed. The only problem with the rear fan was the audio module on the DFI Lanparty SLI-DR motherboard. If you look closely you can see the fan makes contact with the module on its right side. That made it a little more difficult to line up the screws with the fan holes. I could not install the screws perpendicular with the back of the case. Needless to say the install of both fans took no more than 5 minutes.
