Maxtop CSX-CM03B Mid Tower Case
May 01, 2006

Conclusion:

If you are building a system using a Micro ATX motherboard, this is a good option. Since the case does not have anything that screams for attention, it would be a good option if you wanted it for a home office, family room, or possibly to serve as a home theater computer (HTPC). It could sit in a corner, and you would barely notice that it is there, especially if you installed a silent CPU cooler.

If there was one thing I would change about this case, it would be to move the front USB ports to another location; perhaps to the side, top panel, or down on the case below the power button. If I had a 3.5" floppy and a 3.5" media reader I would not be able to fit them both into this case.

There is nothing technically wrong with this case. It functions perfectly for what it is designed to do. There are always things that we would like to see done to improve the case. These can include tool-less design, fans, removable motherboard tray and side window. These changes would increase the cost of the case, and they are not always necessary.

A search of PriceGrabber did not show this case available. When ArrowMax starts to sell this case in the US, I would expect that it would be priced under $50 (US), possibly under $40.

Given the performance, and overall improvements from the first generation unit I award the Maxtop CSX-CM03B Mid-Tower case a final score of four out of five stars.

Final Rating (4 out of 5 stars):

Pros:

» Plain classic look
» Sturdy/lightweight construction
» Low cost
» Hide 5.25" optical door

Cons:

» No included fans
» Not tool-less
» Can not access both 3.5" drive bays
