Maxtop CSX-CM03B Mid Tower Case

Testing:

Testing consisted of comparing idle and load conditions in this case as related to CPU thermal performance and power supply stability.

The idle condition was established by powering the base system at default speeds and voltages with no applications running for a period of at least 30 minutes. The load condition was established by loading the system up with components and fans, while Folding@Home and SiSoft Sandra 2005's Burn-in Wizard ran for a period of at least 60 minutes. The table below details the idle and load hardware:

Idle Load
Intel P4 2.8 Socket 478
Noctua HN-U9 CPU Cooler
MSI PM8M-V Motherboard
1GB (2x512) Generic Samsung DDR
1x 250GB Western Digital IDE hard drive
Sony DVD/CDRW
PNY GeForce 6200 AGP
AverMedia Purity 3d MCE 500 TV Tuner
D-Link PCI Wireless NIC
Fans: 1x80mm

Here we have the idle and the load voltages. As you can see, each of the three rails were putting out anywhere from 2% - 4% additional power. This is within the +/-5% tolerance, however it is getting close to the tolerance level. There was a slight drop in voltages from the idle to load readings (approximately 1.5% to 3.3% drop), that does not make this a bad power supply. The voltages fluctuated +/-.02 volts in the six (6) readings I took. The numbers you see below are the averages of my readings.

The next chart compares the load voltage readings of four power supplies. All of the values are well within an acceptable range of +/- 5% of specification, and absolutely zero power issues were experienced during testing.

Probably the biggest concern would be regarding temperatures. With no fans running, my system would idle at 49C, and under the load it would reach 57C. Well below the max temperatures. Unfortunately, since this is a new motherboard/CPU combo for my HTPC, I don't have any other temperatures to compare this to.
