CoolMax CUG-600B Green Power 600W Power Supply
September 06, 2006

Test System:

The CoolMax CUG-600B Green Power 600W Power Supply was benchmarked in two stages, with voltages measured at idle and load. The power supply was connected to the test computer and voltages were recorded using Hardware Monitor 4.5.5.2 (a voltage/temperature monitoring software-based tool). Computer system specifications are listed below.

» AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Processor @2.63GHz w/Thermalright SLK-948U
» ASUS A8N-E nForce4 Motherboard
» 2x Maxtor 80GB Hard disks in RAID-0
» 1x Maxtor 60GB Hard disk
» 2x Optical devices (CDRW, DVD-ROM)
» ATI Radeon X850XT 256MB video card
» 1x PCI devices (Highpoint 454 Raid Controller)
» Antec Plus 1080 Server Case
» 3x 120mm case fans

Performance and Results:

To get an accurate indication of the CoolMax CUG-600B Green Power 600W Power Supply's performance, the average voltages of the power supply were recorded at idle and load. Idle conditions were generated by letting the system sit at the Window's desktop with nothing else running. Load conditions were generated by running a combination SiSoft Sandra's Burn-in Wizard and Folding@Home. Load voltages were only taken after stressing the computer for a minimum of one hour.

Here are the average idle and load voltages recorded using Hardware Monitor 4.5.5.2. There is minimal fluctuation between idle and load and all voltages are well within 5% of the specifications.

For comparison purposes, we put the CoolMax 600W power supply up against a previously reviewed Enermax 470W power supply in the same test system. Both systems were well within their specifications, and both had the same delta in idle/load voltage fluctuation. Both units fall within the industry standards of rail voltages being +/- 5% their ratings.
