Super Talent 2GB MEGA Screen MP3/FM/Recorder Player
May 19, 2006

Operation:

To get things going I plugged the USB cable into both the Super Talent player and my computer. I was greeted with a screen saying the battery was charged and the unit was ready to use. I was expecting to have to charge the MEGA Screen before it would be ready to use, and figured it would only have a partial charge at best. I was wrong, as the unit ran for over 7 hours before I needed to charge it again.

Next it was time to load some music onto the MEGA Screen. I just happened to have a "Music" folder on my hard drive that contained 1.83 MB of MP3 files. With a simple "Select All" followed by "Copy" and then "Paste", within a few minutes I had the MEGA Screen almost fully loaded.

At this point I did something very unusual for me, I put the MEGA Screen down and actually started reading the user's manual. Once I had read through it enough that I felt I knew what I was doing I went to get the MEGA Screen and found my 12 year old son dancing around the room with the MEGA Screen in his hands and the ear buds in his ears. Apparently the controls are simple enough to use without reading the manual.

What reading the manual did hint to me is that there was no support for DRM with Super Talent's player. An e-mail confirmed my suspicions, and if you only have subscription based music or otherwise protected files (iTunes, Napster, etc), then this isn't the player for you. But, if you have all your own files that you want to use, the Super Talent MEGA Screen can unlock many features found on iPod-like devices for less money.

Rather than go through a description of the function of each button I have simply scanned a page from the manual with the diagram showing each button and their function. Suffice it to say they are pretty straight forward and easy to understand.

The MEGA Screen has many menus, but the one you will undoubtedly use the most is this main menu where you select what function to use. As you can see you can choose from MP3, FM Radio, Voice (recorder), Line In, and Photo Album.
