Conclusion:

The Thermaltake V1 AX CPU cooler is an impressive cooler, both in looks and performance. It is by far the largest cooler I have ever worked with, and I was initially concerned about its size and whether or not it would fit into my case. It is extremely easy to install (and remove), and as with most socket 775 and 1366 coolers, the locking system is virtually effortless.

Thermaltake markets this cooler as silent [check], having a mirror coated base [check], and Intelligent CPU and System Thermal Management [and check]. They also mention that the heatpipes are copper, and despite the silvery appearance they are indeed copper underneath the plating.

Xoxide.com carries the Thermaltake V1 AX CPU cooler for $59.99. Overall the price seems to be about what you might expect to pay for a higher end after-market cooler these days, and the performance gains, great design scheme, and included hardware/extras make this seem like it is well worth the money. Shopping around a bit shows that the Xoxide price is not the best, with some stores offering it for as much as $20 less.

Due to the performance, unique design, and potential for silence, the Thermaltake V1 AX CPU cooler earns the Bigbruin.com "Highly Recommended" and "Whisper Quiet" awards.

Highly Recommended Whisper Quiet

Pros:

» Great design and performance
» Extremely quiet at low speed
» Mounting brackets for all current processor platforms
» Large 110mm LED fan

Cons:

» Short fan control lead
» Need additional tools to change mounting hardware
» Price is on par with high-end aftermarket coolers
