Conclusion:

The MUKii TransImp TIP-230U3-BK USB 3.0 drive enclosure is easy to use and simplifies the task of turning any 2.5" SATA drive into a portable device. As with other USB 3.0 devices, it is fully backwards compatible to USB 2.0; so even if you have this enclosure before you have USB 3.0 in your computer, it will still function just fine with your current USB 2.0 connections. You'll have yourself a sleek and compact USB 2.0 enclosure that will be ready for SuperSpeed performance whenever you are.

The aluminum case will provide protection for the 2.5" hard drive installed in the TransImp TIP-230U3-BK, while still keeping the weight down. The TransImp TIP-230U3-BK doesn't waste any space, as it is just a little bigger than a 2.5" hard drive, so it is small enough to be carried in a pocket, laptop bag, etc.

While the MUKii TransImp TIP-230U3-BK is a nice enclosure, it didn't perform as well as other USB 3.0 devices on hand. This was evident in all of the tests performed, and it really shows in the 512K write test of CrystalDiskMark. Beyond performance, perhaps the biggest downside is the limited availability in the USA.

The Bigbruin.com shopping engine doesn't find many of the MUKii products, and didn't find the TransImp TIP-230U3-BK at all. Digging deeper on the Web finds it at very few stores, but Amazon.com does list it for just over $30 (US).

Considering things such as the features, ease of use, added software, and price of the enclosure, the MUKii TransImp TIP-230U3-BK USB 3.0 drive enclosure receives the Bigbruin.com "Recommended" award.
