Hello Everyone! I'm a brand new member & this is my first post. I hope I do everything right! If not, please let me know the proper way. My question involves finding out if any of you fine folks can tell me how an Athlon 64 3000+ compares with Pentium 4 cpu's in a gaming setup. By this I mean, which P4 most evenly rated compared to the 3000+. I'm having a hard time deciding which processor I want to use, Intel or AMD. I've been told that the Athlon is usually superior to the P4 but I need to know which P4!
I'll thank you all now for your help......Grizwold.

AMD > Intel in gaming.

(Prior to Conroe anyway, we shall see what you can get for your money when that chip is released.)

P4 = old and busted
Conroe(Core Duo2)/Core Duo = new hotness

P4 < AMD64 < Cores

I would say an A64 3200+ would compare to a P4 in the high 2.x GHz range.

I have not had an Intel chip since the P3 days so I cant really compare them but, I can say I am really happy with my A64 3000+. I know there are better or faster chips but for the cost it offers lots of bang for the buck.

again, this is how you look at it. I fyou need raw clock speed, then you go with a P4. If you need a fast FLU (like gaming) then you go AMD (for the next month). If you'r a fanboy, thn it really doesn't matter at all.

in my experience, my 805D is EXACTLY as fast as the Opty165 I had. They're within 100 3D marks of each other (in 01-06).

Especially when everyone found out that the Pentium D805 was a hidden overclocking jewel, it's been named the next best thing. I say, if you're into overclocking Grizwold and you don't want to spend to much money, get the 805 for sure. It's a great bang for the buck!

I was talking about at default clock speeds, but yes given the right combo of mobo, RAM and cooling, it can be good...just not in my case Sad
