TigerDirect sent me an email with this...kinda beefy just for Vista Ultimate IMO.

Not really , Vista Ultimate is REALLY resource hungry. It used about 550Mb of Ram When its just sat on the desktop idle... pricey though.

4GB is a bit much...even for Ultimate. I've run Ultimate just fine on a 1GB HTPC. 2GB is where I"ve seen the best bang, when I put in 4GB I didn't notice anything different, until I went into Vanguard, but that is a different story....

It's a high end PC. That's why it comes with 4GB. Nothing wrong with that.

Unless you're really into tweaking the system for gaming, I'd stay away from Vista for a bit longer. Let a few more patches/fixes come out first...

A friend recently went from 1GB to 2GB for Vanguard, and she saw a HUGE difference. I would recommend going to 2GB if you're playing Vanguard. Now going from 2GB to 4GB I saw a boost, but ultimately it wasn't a HUGE boost, nothing like 1GB to 2GB.

As for what XP can see, I believe it can actually see a little more than 3GB, but the performance boost isn't there going above 2GB.

I wouldn't upgrade the card anyways, sure you'd see a boost in an upgrade but I'd hold out for the 8000 series to be expanded. Which will be hopefuly in the next few months or sooner...

For Vanguard, keep your drives in as pristine condition as possible (i.e. Scandisk and Defrag on a regular basis). Also make sure you use the /flush command in Vanguard whenever you start to see issues.

Much appreciated on both your very timely responses Hellfire. I was thinking of waiting for Vista anyways, and will certainly do so since you are the umpteenth person to suggest waiting. I am currently using 2 gigs of RAM, so no upgrade for now. I wasn't aware that vangard made use of the /flush command. Ill start using that.

Is it me or is vanguard VERY similar to the original Star Wars Galaxies? I used a /flush looping macro in that game and it dramatically improved my computer's performance.

Vista has a primary security flaw, that in my opinion pretty much makes the other security features useless.

Vista will "auto detect" when it sees a installer it will give it Admin privileges. Doesn't matter if the user has it or not, the installer gets it. Welcome to new installers for your viruses, spyware, etc..
