Unless you're really into tweaking the system for gaming, I'd stay away from Vista for a bit longer. Let a few more patches/fixes come out first...

A friend recently went from 1GB to 2GB for Vanguard, and she saw a HUGE difference. I would recommend going to 2GB if you're playing Vanguard. Now going from 2GB to 4GB I saw a boost, but ultimately it wasn't a HUGE boost, nothing like 1GB to 2GB.

As for what XP can see, I believe it can actually see a little more than 3GB, but the performance boost isn't there going above 2GB.

I wouldn't upgrade the card anyways, sure you'd see a boost in an upgrade but I'd hold out for the 8000 series to be expanded. Which will be hopefuly in the next few months or sooner...

For Vanguard, keep your drives in as pristine condition as possible (i.e. Scandisk and Defrag on a regular basis). Also make sure you use the /flush command in Vanguard whenever you start to see issues.
