|
|
Hi guys,
For a long time, I'm thinking about upgrading my current Thermaltake Soprano Case with a new one and I'm quite 'locked' on the CoolerMaster HAF-932.
Now, I can get the HAF-932 here in Israel for around $165.
So far, I've managed to save around $150, so soon enough I think I'll be able to buy it.
But...Just today I had a new idea.
I thought about selling my current Q6600 CPU and upgrade it to a new Q9550 CPU.
I can sell my Q6600 for around $125 and by adding extra $160, I can buy a new Q9550 for $285.
So basically, I can spend ~$160 on either a new case or a new CPU.
Now, I want the HAF-932 for a long time, but it's also very tempting to have a new CPU that can be (quite easily) overclocked to 3.8GHz (even 4GB maybe??? ).
So my BIG QUESTION is, what do you think I should do, go with the HAF-932 case or with the Q9550 CPU?
Unfortunately, I just can't afford them both ...So in case I'll go with the HAF-932, I think my next CPU upgrade will be only in ~2yrs from now to an i7 platform...
Will I have any major performance boost by moving from a Q6600 to a Q9550, or maybe the extra bucks just doesn't worth it???
I'll appreciate you advice... _________________ Intel Quad-Core Q6600 G0 @3.4GHz (8x425)

Thanks for your advice.
I think I'll go with the Case for the time being and in the meantime, start saving money for my next upgrade, which might turn to be a new i5-based system.
Still waiting though for some more opinions... _________________ Intel Quad-Core Q6600 G0 @3.4GHz (8x425)

It really lacks 'space'. I can barely do any cable management with it, the air-flow is quite bad and...everytime I want to remove the HSF, in order to clean it, replace it or re-apply new TIM, I have to take off the whole damn mobo.
With the HAF-932 having a hole right under the 775-socket bracket, it should be an easier task.
And...I'm really impressed by both the look and GREAT air-flow this HAF-932 has to offer.
Now, that I've almost made my mind to go with the HAF-932 and give up (at least for the time being) on the Q9550, there's another option coming to my mind, to buy a new 64GB SSD drive instead of the case.
But, I think I'll wait a bit more for the prices of SSD to go down before I'll buy one.
Maybe, on my next 'BIG' upgrade to a whole new i5-based or i7-based system (meaning I'll have to upgrade both CPU, mobo and RAM), I'll also buy a new SSD. But this will happen only in about a year from now...minimum. _________________ Intel Quad-Core Q6600 G0 @3.4GHz (8x425)

Too pricey...for the moment. But, in a few months from now, I bet prices will drop down significantly and then...it'll be a VERY GOOD choice to upgrade to SSD.
For the time being, I'll be going then with the case.
It might take me a week or two to actually find the time to go and grab one, but I'll surely keep you updated once I'll get it. _________________ Intel Quad-Core Q6600 G0 @3.4GHz (8x425)

Personally id get the HAF 932 and save to do a more complete upgrade later on to either i5 or i7. SSD's i definatly wouldnt get as i think they are likely to have a price plummet over the next few months as they have more han halfed in price from what i can tell since start of the year.
The case is also an amazing case, only problem i have with it is that its got no dust filters and after using it for just two weeks you can see the dust start to build up aroud the fan grills, doesnt seem too much of a problem inside atm but ive got so many fans going its kinda hard to tell lol _________________ Coolermaster HAF 932 II Coolermaster Real Power M1000 II Gigabyte EX58-UD5 II i7 920 @ 3.2Ghz II Corsair H100 CPU Cooler II 24gb Corsair Vengeance 1600mhz II 2x MSI GTX 460 Hawk Talon Attack SLI II Corsair F240 SSD II 2x3Tb Seagate (RAID0) II 1Tb Seagate 7200.12 II 1.5Tb Seagate 7200.11 II Pinoneer BluRay Writer |

Thanks A LOT for the advice.
I STRONGLY agree with everything you said.
I've just made up my mind and I'll definitely go with the HAF-932.
Then, in a year or so, I'll consider upgrading my whole system, but then I'll already have a decent case to 'house' it.
You're damn right about SSDs. I'm pretty sure their prices will go down drastically in a few months and them we'll all be able to get some 64GB or even 128GB ones for a much cheaper/reasonable price to run our OS on them.
I must say you got me worried a bit regarding the dust, as I have TONS of dust in my house.
I think I'll try to buy and use some dust filters on the fans, when I'll transfer my components to it.
Any recommendations on dust filters and/or materials that I can use to filter the dust in this HAF-932 case? _________________ Intel Quad-Core Q6600 G0 @3.4GHz (8x425)

No ideas for dust filters really sorry, over the bottom of the case(for a 120mm intake and psu fan ive strectched tights over and taped it in place and thats stopping stuff on the bottom whilst keeping a reasonable air flow. Contemplating doing that for the front fan aswell as it wont look too messy but aside from doing the same but on the inside of the side panel i dont have any ideas yet lol, if you find anything useful let me know lol . And as for ssd's for os's im kinda hoping to be able to get sommat like a 128gb one next year at a reasonable price, dont think it will be too long till they are aropund the same price as normal drives. Id thought they will end up alot cheaper than raptors aswell considering the jumps companies are making with flash memory. _________________ Coolermaster HAF 932 II Coolermaster Real Power M1000 II Gigabyte EX58-UD5 II i7 920 @ 3.2Ghz II Corsair H100 CPU Cooler II 24gb Corsair Vengeance 1600mhz II 2x MSI GTX 460 Hawk Talon Attack SLI II Corsair F240 SSD II 2x3Tb Seagate (RAID0) II 1Tb Seagate 7200.12 II 1.5Tb Seagate 7200.11 II Pinoneer BluRay Writer |
