@Enig -- yup, I meant "freezer". I also tried it a few years ago and it didn't work.

Ok I tried dipping my computer in acid to fix it and it didn't work - what type of acid should I use? Should I go for an all-sulfuric acid solution?

Or maybe I mean molten lava? I'm confused. Smile

Ok it's crazy, but when you think about it so is dipping your computer in liquid nitrogen Smile

Or mineral oil...

I would have done this already if I had a spare PCI-E mobo to test it on. My broken 6800 Ultra is outta warranty and I wouldn't mind an easy fix for it. Never know what a borked component will do to the rest of the system though.

Not for several years now but in the past I've rescued SCSI hdd's by freezing them. Generally speaking an always on hdd over time supposedly slightly warps the platter(s). A sudden power change would leave the disks in an un-bootable state but a couple hours frozen would often correct the problem, although I always recommended replacement after the data was saved.

I seconded the freezer method, it does work for older drives (5-6 years ago). Not sure about the newer drives, but it doesn't hurt to try.

Yeah, I've heard about the 'freezing' method already a few years ago.

Well guys, once I get situated in my new house I am going to give this a try. A friend here at work saw that article and gave me two 8800GTS 320mb to try it out on since they are artifacting and out of warranty. I'll just have to try it when my wife isn't around cause she might wonder what I'm baking. heh
