Need solid advice

Recently I've had quite a bit of time on my hands and I've become very upset with how my life is going. The main reason is that if I'm not with my girlfriend (which unfortunately isn't very often), I'm on the computer. Why? Many reasons:

I consider myself a fairly intelligent person and like to have meaningful conversations in productive areas... Most people around here don't even know what a fillibuster is.

I think I may have come up with a solution. I think I should go to college and explore my potential (I have no education outside of HS *ack*). Unfortunately I have no money and will have to go for as many grants and such as I can, and pay the rest with Federal funding.

Anyone have any thoughts/suggestions/words of encouragement? I'm quite confused because I have no one else to ask... My mother is a drunk and my father doesn't care.

Become an edukated idiot!!! HAHAHAHAHA!!

As for "What you want to be when you grow up" Don't worry about it for now... for about the first 2 years anyways it's a lot of general ed. This gives you time to see what you really want to be.

Seriously, go for it. Misty just went back, and I need to do the same.

Yep! Thats the ONLY answer. GO FOR IT!! If you don't know what field you really want to shoot for, than take some "lighter" courses. Like Creative righting (for your music interests) or photography. Once you get into the swing of things in the classes/talking with others you can decide where you want to go.

Hell, I'm a HS drop out! Joined the military at 17 (attained my G.E.D. there), and like a DUMB a$$ did not continue to further my edumacation. Of ALL the things I would like to do over.....formal education tops the list!!!!!!!!!
I am not a learned person, but I'm not stupid either. TOO many times I've seen others with less knowledge/experience get UNDISERVED advancements only because they have a piece of parchment to hang on a wall.

As much as I hate book type schooling, college is probably a good idea for you. If you can deal with having to take classes that have nothing to do with the subject matter at hand. ...like a "gym" class when you're there to major in economics or software programming.

I'm more a fan of trade or specific field education like ITT Tech or any local trade schools.

If you can find a way ($$), I'd say give it a shot! Would you be looking at computers or programming? With your skills, someone should definitely be interested in you!!

And like others have said... having the diploma is sometimes just as important as having the knowledge... I'd say that part has helped me more than once!!

Go for it! Do the research and see what $$ is available. Do you live at home (with parents), if not can you move back to save $$? Try a community college - 2 years for an associates and then go on for a bachelors. After two years you might have skills that would allow you to be gainlyfully employed and the let your employer pay for the bachelors.

I say go for it. If you can't afford it and can't find a way to, at least start your own business. You know php, I assume html too, so maybe a web design busness or something like that. With that you can go to college and get a job.

I hate it how it works though. Getting a job does not go by how smart you are, but by how much education you have. But you gota go with the flow. Grin

Go for it Ice, I am in my late 20's and went back. Will graduate AGAIN in June witha perfect 4.0 (hopefully) if I dotn screw it up the next couple quarters.. heheheh Ya need any help with finding financial aid lemme know:) I have gotten really good at finding scholorships and such:)
