Crysis is playable on high setting (1440x900 resolution) on a 9800gt. I overclock mine when playing Crysis to get a little better FPS. Crysis tends to do a little better on Nvidia cards over ATI but both make really good cards. If you are trying to stay toward the lower end of your budget a 9800gt would be a good fit. If you want spend a little more a 9800gtx+/geforce 250 or a ATI HD 4850 would be good options.

For your budget, I'd recommend the ATI radeon hd 4850 or the Geforce 9800 gtx+.

the least upgrade is 8800gt on 1078x768 there may be hickups but go for vista ultimate sp1 64bit and upgrade ram to at least 4gb.

if your system can run crysis very high then it can run the latest heavy games

Yeah, HD4850 will be just fine if you don't want to spend too much on a Video Card.

The 9800GT is equal (more or less) in performance to the HD4850. I'd personally go with a 9800GT if I had to choose between the two.

In case you go with a 9800GT, take into consideration that the old' 8800GT is actually the same card as the 9800GT (the 9800GT is just a rebranded 8800GT), so if you're a bit tight on budget you can always try and get a 2nd-hand/used 8800GT and save some money, while getting the same performance as a new 9800GT. I can give it a shot on my 8800gts 640mb, and then tomorrow give bench's on a 260gtx. Then hopefully in a few weeks give bench's on a 275, depending on how long it takes to do the step-up...

For the price that you're looking at and the res that you're playing at, I'd jump on a 4870. The prices have come down to the $150 range here lately with the release of the 4890's...........Wink

Yeah, that can be a very good choice to go with the 4870 as it is a good-bang-for-the-buck and offers almost the same performance as the new 4890.

Regarding the price of a 4870, the cheapest I've seen costs around $175 (newegg), so I'm not sure about the $150 price tag, but even then, the price difference between the 4870 ($175) to the 4850 (~$135) is 'only' $40 bucks, so in this case, I personally think it's better to go with the 4870, if one can afford the extra $40 bucks.
