Anybody building a new box based on the X58 and the Core i7 chips? I've been considering it, my newest box is almost a year old and probably should be updated LOL
Figured the cheapest I could get into it is around $650 if I was lucky...(Ram, MB, CPU)

I'm probably going to wait until after the first price drop before I play around with i7. I've got to get rid of a couple of my other systems first though (e6400 and a first gen Q6600). I may hold of even longer and take advantage of pricing on the q9400's instead. _________________

The wife and I just did upgrades to AMD Phenom's... (mine's coming in tomorrow) don't see the need for an upgrade to anything else for at least 2 yrs. When DDR3 drops in price after AMD comes out with the AM3 CPU's then, it'll start being worth it.
The cheapest is to sign up for the live.com cash back promo and save 25% off of Ebay buy it now auctions. I haven't tried it because I'm in Canada, but people say it takes 60 days to get the cash back from Microsoft. There are lots of threads on the deals sites that explain everything about the promo.

My system is currently pretty stacked. 8GB DDR2, 2.2Ghz Core 2 Duo. However, when Sata III is released and SSD are cheaper/better then I'll upgrade. No point in spending the cash for a better cpu, and faster ram at this current time. But it is tempting, as my "server's" tech is getting behind the times, and could benefit by moving the raid array into the current system. _________________ Nothing says good job like a firm open palmed slap on the behind.

We were thinking about the i7 for our new desktops at work but we're *settling* with quad-cores since the precision line at dell doesn't have an i7-based build yet _________________ ABAP? What did you call me?
