Yea, I'd like to see how the 9800 does compared to the 8800 on something like Crysis to know whether I should get one or not Grin

How about 9800 GX2. Dual core. And to make Kilamon's day... It requires a 6-pin AND an 8-pin PCIe power connection!

Bah, this sucks...

I have until the 31st to step up, and I doubt I will upgrade my 8800GTS g92 video card to a lesser 9600 series card.

I just read the new info and the xp 3dmark results are cool. I was impressed at the ATI offeriing. I thought they were always lagging behind and here I see that they're very competitive.

Oh, and just for comparison, my 6800 GT scored a 2700 in 3dmark06. Sad Can't wait to move to the 15,000+ ranking for my video. I'll have to sort the power connections out, though. Not looking forward to that.

I was pretty close to getting a 9600GT, but decided to go with an "open box" 8800GT instead. The price was about the same and most sites show the 8800GT still beating the 9600GT. The 8800GS is a also very nice card and the egg is selling it for $110 after rebate. The 8800GS is a bit slower than the 9600GT, but is about $50 less.

The 9800gx2 is crazy. Not only will you have to sort out the power requirements, there's also the heat/cooling to deal with. Could you imagine running two of these cards in a dual socket mobo with 2 quad cpu's and 8gb of ram? I'm betting we will see something like that before the year is out.

By my count 2-gx2's and 2 quads (newer wolfdale 65w quads) would pull about 750-800w fully loaded. (although I can't imagine a situation or program that could fully load 2 quad core cpu's and 2 dual core gpu's). You might as well just leave a hair dryer on 24x7, it would use about the same amount of power and emit similar amounts of heat Grin

Well, I guess the 350w load number is for the complete system, so I suppose the 9800gx2 only draws a couple hundred watts loaded. Still it's an awefull lot of juice to be sucking out of the wall. If things keep going the way they are now, people are going to have to start putting 25a circuits in their homes just to power their computers.

Maybe it's time to invest in solar roof tiles and cut some costs. Who knows, if you do all of your roof, you might be able to run your PC for a day without paying the electric company. Laughing

BTW Yes I am planning to get these when I redo my roof.

They're out. $599

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010380048+106792522+1067937879&name=GeForce+9800+GX2

I find it extremely odd that Nvidia released the GX2 dual core 9800 before the single core 9800GTX,GT,GTS (or whatever they are calling it). Kind of makes me think that one 9800 core isn't that much faster than the older 8800GTX or even the newer 8800GTS (g92). $600 is only slightly more than 2-8800GTS (g92)'s so that would reinforce the theory that there isn't a whole lot of improvement in performance.
