I was pretty close to getting a 9600GT, but decided to go with an "open box" 8800GT instead. The price was about the same and most sites show the 8800GT still beating the 9600GT. The 8800GS is a also very nice card and the egg is selling it for $110 after rebate. The 8800GS is a bit slower than the 9600GT, but is about $50 less.
The 9800gx2 is crazy. Not only will you have to sort out the power requirements, there's also the heat/cooling to deal with. Could you imagine running two of these cards in a dual socket mobo with 2 quad cpu's and 8gb of ram? I'm betting we will see something like that before the year is out.
