37" LCD Widescreen HDTV from Viewsonic for under $500. Shipping looks like $30-$40ish...
Maybe those lucky SOBs with a Fry's nearby could actually pick one up. |

Not a bad deal, but it's only 720p. If you look around for the right deals you can get a 1080i for that. Also just noticed that is stays "Call for Availability"....
But other than that the rest of the stats on it are good. OOO And never say that someone who has a Fry's close to them are "lucky" Fry's is one interesting experience!!! |

For the record coming from Fry's land (northern CA) they do not and will not price match off of outpost...... prices in store are higher |

You won't find an lcd that's true 1080i since that would require the lcd to display 1920x1080 it would actually be 1080p. Most lower cost lcd's are 1366x768 which is diplayed as 720p (1280x720 with a bit of overscan). Many of these lcd's will convert a 1080i signal, but that's not technically the same as actually displaying 1080i
As for the 1080i vs. 720p argument,
1920 x 540 (1080 lines interlaced) = 1036800 pixels of resolution
1280x720 = 921600 pixels of resolution.
Strictly speaking this isn't exactly correct, but it gives you the basic concept, the two resolutions are close enough that I don't think one can honestly say ones better than the other. _________________

Even he said that not everyone agrees with his assesment of 1080i vs 720p. I don't think ones better than the other, the major thing to remember is that you get best result displaying HD in your sets native resolution so if your HDTV is a RP CRT like mine, 1080i will always look better than 720p because all 720p signals are interpolated to 1080i. The same holds true for LCD's and other digital formats, most are 720p (although a lot of newer stuff is 1080p) and they will always look better with 720p signals rather than converted 1080i signals. Up here it seems that half the HD programming is in 1080i and the other half is 720p so on any given channel one looks better than the other. In anycase they all look better than SDTV. I didn't realize the Viewsonic 37" couldn't display 1080i, that makes it pretty much useless since there is still a lot of 1090i programming out there. _________________
