Nice! Those things are cool... I used to check them out all the time since Toyota kept some in my company's lot.

It feels pretty solid and with the 6 speed manual transmission it's reasonably quick. Of course going from my old chevy (in the background) to this, a prius would seem quick Grin it's pretty utilitarian inside and with better tires is supposed to be a reasonably capable recreational 4x4. Perfect for the 225mile drive to/from work every two weeks. I haven't had a new car since 1995 so it was time.

I originally wanted a new Chevy 3/4-ton diesel, but the dealerships up here don't seem to realize that 2007 model trucks are already 1 year old when you drive them off the lot and are not being very reasonable in negotiations. This probably has a lot to do with the fact that everyone up here drives a truck. Anyway, I got the FJ for $500 over invoice, which wasn't as good as the deals I'm hearing about down south, but since there is only one Toyota dealer up here I still feel pretty good about it.

You can tell by the partially deflated zodiak in the background that my neighbor is a pack rat. Nice people, but deflated rubber boats don't belong in the front yard. GrinGrinGrinGrin

Almost bought one of those, but changed my mind at the last minute. With my commute, the 17mpg was gonna kill me in gas.

It's not great, but my 1ton crew cab 4x4 only gets 16mpg on the highway and 12mpg in town, so It's an improvement over what I was getting. Plus I don't have a commute, well I do but it only takes place about 12 times a year so it really doesn't amount to much. I average about 7500 miles per year total on my vehicles.

I had some new tires put on a couple days ago. BFG Mud Terrain T/A's 255/75-R17's

With hand siping to help improve snow/ice traction

d00d... I'd love to get the fuel mileage that your 1 ton gets..

My underpowered 1995 GMC K1500 ext cab 4x4 w/350cid gets 8mpg city and 15mpg if I can keep it between 65 and 75mph. Anything more or less than 65-75mph it starts dropping off to 8mpg in a hurry. I get better fuel economy at 85/90mph than I do at 50/55mph.

I pulled 18.4 MPG in my '08 1 ton SuperDuty today going to Anchorage and back, I'm happy with that.

You think ONE deflated rubber boat in the yard is bad? Come down to the North Road (starting about 1000ft north of Kenai and heading north.

Rednecks have nothing on the back woods of Nikiski...

I might have to get some pictures sometime, its bizzare, you can go from one house being fantastic and the acres next door being half a singlewide covered in spray foam and blue tarps and 10 wrecked cars and back to picture perfect in just a few acres.

Nice shiny new rig BTW, bring it by sometime so i can check it out!!!

Welcome to AK Spire Grin
Blue tarps are actually considered a roofing material up here. GrinGrinGrin Another comical sight that is more common around Valdez, but can be found nearly everywhere, is when people actually build roofs over the top of their single wide trailers. Sort of a car port for their mobile home. Grin They feel the need to do this to keep the roofs from caving in on them due to the heavy snow loads. The thing is, I've seen people make the roofs so heavy duty that they could have probably built themselves a whole house for about 30 percent more, guess they just didn't want to move.

The newer diesels like yours definitely get better mpg, mines 11yrs old and I just couldn't justify spending 40k for a new one Sad The FJ is supposed to get about 19mpg on the hwy, but I'll believe that when I see it.

One of my neighbors has the "roof over trailer" thing. But they did an addition and built regular construction to make it a double wide.

This place is great!!!
