I'm not to sure if an UPS would go into hardware, but it's kinda computer hardware.

I have an odd question, that I've been unable to find an answer to.
I currently live in Germany where voltage is 220 50Hz, and I own a lot of american items like my MX1000, Router ect, that are all 110. They sell transformers here, but all the transformers (say you get a 1000 watt) draw 1000 watts all the time even if you're only using 65w. I'm tryint to find an ups that will accept 110 or 220 input and will still output just 110 so I can run all my stuff normally here and when I go back to the states I can still use it. Is this even possible?

Never seen anything like that. Might be out there, but because it would be pretty limited usage I wouldn't except to find it very easily.

A transformer will not pull 1000 watts if you are only using 65 watts on the output. if you are pulling 65 watts on the output the transformer will be pulling 65 watts from the mains.

The 1000 watt rating of the transformer is only telling you the MAX wattage you can pull through that transformer before you start to overheat the windings and risk destroying it.

I would be a whole lot more concerned about the 50Hz vs. 60HZ issue.

It will probably use 90 to 130w due to electrical inefficiency (transforming 220 50Hz to 24-28VDC to charge the battery, and then transforming it back to the desired line voltage)
I'm sure that APC/other UPS makers have a model to fit that need, if all the devices are externally powered (wall wart/power brick) you might be able to get the correct model for the local current and use a standard local UPS (might be cheaper than a specialty model UPS)

You need to get an auto-input UPS.

Hmmm... I stand corrected. Looks like APC has something that will work for you.

I agree with T-Shirt, there are inefficiencies and heat generated so a transformer is not 100% but my point was a 1000 watt transformer does not pull 1000 watts regardless of load.

I was always under the impression that the transformers here pulled exactly their ratings. Everyone in my squadron tells us that when new people arrive. But that ups is awesome, I looked through APC for awhile and couldn't find one. I suck at google Sad

heehh Not to put them down, but becareful of what they say if they are not technical/electrically (like an electrical engineer) sound people...I remember going overseas with the Military, and hearing all the inaccuracies from people that had been there for years...

All it takes is one person to assume he knows, and to pass it on. Especially since it sounds good and rigth...

Just like the theory that a 1,000W power supply, always pulls 1,000W regardless whether it needs it or not.

If it did it would be a 1000watt heater! (if you're only using 65, the other 935 has to go somewhere. Just like you might have a 600watt PSU, the 600 watts is maximum output, even if the computer only needs 300 watts most of the time.
