Installed a new 160GB Seagate hard drive into a system that has an 80GB SATA drive installed and an IDE optical.

The first boot up, the drive is found and configured. Works great.

Do a reboot/shut down and the next time I go into XP, the system either locks up during the boot sequence or goes into a reboot cycle.

Remove the drive the computer boots up. Reattach the drive, it boots up once, then goes back to the lock/reboot issue.

If I boot into safe mode, the drive is there, and works. Reboot, and it works fine. Next reboot/shut down it goes into the lock/reboot mode again.

Yup, drive works in another system. Don't have another drive to try in that system though.

I'd check the firmware on the system, also check with Seagate they might have a firmware issue.

Yea, I've contacted HP to see if they've heard of the issue.

Going to try a different SATA cable, will also check with Seagate for a firmware update. Maybe get lucky....although that won't work for the long run, so if that's it, will probably have to look at a different drive Sad
