This crap came pre-loaded on my dell. I figured I would jsut use it for the 90 dair trial and then go to AVG. But I made the mistake of enabling the privacy protection portion of the software. What a friggen mistake.

Every time I woudl boot up my laptop McAfee would ask me to enter my privacy password. I would do it and then the computer would totally freeze up. Did it every time and I could do nothing but re-boot. What a piece of crap.

I had to go the to the uninstaller and get it ready then enter my password for the privacy software and real quick before the computer froze click the yes button to uninstall. I jsut got rid of the entire McAfee program. I will download AVG later tonight.

I jsut wanted to share my experience and how much I think McAfee sucks when it comes to this privicy portion of their software package.

Also take a look at Avast. Free for the home user, and works well.

The home version of Mcafee bites serious A$$... the corporate install version is great. Been using it for years... works *so* much better than the crap they push out on the home users.

Remove the Mcafee crap, replace with either TrendMicro, PANDA, or if you want free.... http://www.grisoft.com/doc/1 will do well too.

Been running that on my sons machine for the last year without any issues.

I will be using AVG as my virsu software. Free, pretty good and pretty up-to-date. Seems to work on my desktop so I jsut hope it will catch and bad viruses or prevent them form gettign on my laptop.

I was goign to use my 90 day trial of McAfee but foget it if it is goign to cause my computer ot totally lock up. I am just glade it uninstalled and I am not able to actually use the computer.

What happens in my case with AVG 7 free is that, when there is a virus, it asks me to copy it to the virus vault or continue. It detects the virus, but it's not stopping them... (Was NOT like this with AVG 6) Then you do a system scan to remove the virus.

Agreed. Most of the time, the home version is just bloated to make it all user-friendly. Enterprise and corporate versions are straight-forward and are much better in performance, afterall, it's for business' right? Smile

Glad you've found an antivirus to your liking, but if you ever consider trying out others, I've heard that AntiVir is quite a good one and it is also free. Check it out if you are ever interested: http://www.free-av.com/ Wave

Yeah, the McAfee AV prog of old was great, the new ones suck. Go with AVG or NOD32 for great AV software Wink
