i have a gateway laptop with a wireless g build in . and my signal is weak but still able to pick up in my shed /garage . so here is my question . i have heard that if i put a desk top unit in my shed/garage with a wireless card in it .my signal should be much stronger is this true or a wise tale .i hate to spend the bucks for a wireless g nic card for my desk top only to find out i cant get or recive a signal in the shed .im using a linksys wireless g 2.4 broadband router with speed boost .and i buy a speed boost for the desktop if i can get signal. whats your feeling it work and be stronger signal or about the same or worst ?

If so... yea I don't think so. However if you are asking if a Desktop PCI NIC tends to get a better signal then that's correct.
You can also, depending on the router, either boost the signal or add higher gain antennas and get a stronger signal as well. Also a PCMCIA card gets a better signal than a built-in card.
If you really want to get a good signal, do as I did and run a cat5 cable through the attic+crawlspace to an access point in the front of the house. I now have 2 wireless points. I get signal all the way down the corner!
If you are not getting signals at it best, try changing the channel of the router...
Because sometimes there is some sort of interference like cardless phone, microphone like devices that can interfer with your wireless router, so better change the channels of the router.
