troubling alarm

I agree with Spire, sounds like it's being generated by the motherboard it self. What make/model mother board is it, and if you can remember what did the alarm sound like (long beeps, short beeps, beep count, etc..)?

it's an ATA Raid BE7. (I just found that out last night)

the alarm sounds like an English cop car, but electronic...
HI lo HI lo....real clean, piercing, & undistorted.

...does that help or mean anything?

these don't seem to apply, but i'll bookmark & hope i don't hear it again...
I think it was MBM doing it. Every now & then I would find these files on my very-crowded desktop called "MBM 5 hi-lo log", but they never told me what the problem was...or i didn't know how to read them.

My guess is that MBM5 enabled the beeps in your BIOS as a temperature warning, I believe my friend had the same issue with his MSI K7N2 Delta.

Try checking your BIOS to see if any warning beeps are enabled.

When your computer is booting up it will say "Press [key] to enter SETUP"

Press that key.

Surf around ti'll you find something that sounds right. You don't sound like an idiot, so I'm presuming you'll be able to tell 'Temperature Alarm' (or something similar) from 'CPU Bus Speed'.

That sounds pretty reasonable to me. Since I don't have that board, I can't say for sure.

However if that is the case I would think it would only happen under load. Is that true? Does it only happen when your doing something "heavy" on the computer?

I ventured into the dark woods (BIOS), & yes, I actually did find the temperature alarm. I found it disabled.
So, I'm guessing that's not it...? Bang Head

I'm using Phoenix BIOS, apparently, but the alarm I'm getting insn't listed on the chart highonV8splash linked. Bang Head

And, I've uninstalled MBM 5, so that's probably not it, either. Bang Head

And the alarm came back tonight. I wasn't doing anything heavy, either. (But, yeh, you're right--it did usually show up when I was working on serious graphics or animation.) Ironically, it came up tonight when I was playing the Inuyasha flash game on adultswim.com . The biggest part of this irony stems from the fact that I don't even like anime.

Should i start looking into religion, maybe?

You could always just unplug your BIOS speaker, its an easy fix.
