At least the compaq doesn't have an Intel Inside. It's semi-saved.

Yeah what he said is right. There's no point in Intel right now. Why use DD2 when the AMD boards with DDR can perform just as well, and the DDR costs less than DDR2. NF4 boards already came out with SLI, intel's SLI is still in the works. Also.... intel sux cause I said so.

Other than the argument of "my dad can beat up your dad" I still haven't seen anything that would give me pause to switch to AMD. There are 64 bit chips on both sides and the motherboard manufacturers are stepping up with intel SLI boards. Are there any flat out near-equal comparisons? My computer will be used for gaming primarily, but the wife's PC will be used for CAD in addition to gaming (She designs objects for roller coaster tycoon 3).

It comes down to price. As far as I know you have to get a Xeon CPU to get the EMT64 extensions on an Intel CPU. Which is in the $245 range for a 2.8Ghz. Versus around that price you can get an A64 3400+ for less, and a 3500+ for about $20 more.

I would suggest getting a budget of what you want to spend, and price a comparably priced A64 system and a Intel EMT64 based system and see which one gives you the biggest chubby. Grin

And if you REALLY want SLI on the Intel board, figure out just how long you want to wait, and how much you are willing to pay for one as they are first released.
