If a web server had a Athlon 64 3000+ processor (for example) and was using a 64-bit operating system, would it make a difference as compared to the same server with just a 32-bit OS?
I have seen some servers with a choice of a 64-bit version of CentOS, or Red Hat Enterprise (32-bit) and wondered if it would really matter.

It probably would, 64bit OS's should fully take advantage of the 64bit CPU. Where a 32bit OS can't fully take advantage of the 64bit CPU.
When I load Windows XP 64, I see a significant increase in performance.
Speaking of which, I need to go get the latest version and put it on my new box LOL
Wait, to do that, I'd have to change the raid 0 |

It would for MySQL because it uses a lot of 64-bit algorithms which have to be split up on a 32-bit OS. _________________
