I'm rebuilding this P(OS)4 Prescott sys on an MSI board.........I keep getting a keyboard error. Pluged in the USB/Diagnostics lights bracket and it indicates a keyboard error (I know all 3 keyboards I tried are good).

It sez.....Incorrect CMOS settings.

So I.......

Cleared CMOS.....still no go.

Cleared CMOS, removed battery.....still no go.

Cleared CMOS, removed battery, removed power cable, let sit for 20 minutes.....still no go.

WTF....... Bang Head

Can you get to the bios? If you can look for a setting that is something like "Stop on all errors" or something like that. I had same type problem because of not having a floppy drive installed it halted the system until I changed that setting.

That error MIGHT be looking for a PS/2 keyboard but the USB keyboard MIGHT still work even tho the system is stopping on the keyboard error. Not sure just thinking out loud.

OK since you cant get into BIOS I am thinking either a bad mobo or bad CPU ....guess ram is a possibility too time to start swapping parts to see what you can come up with.

You might want to think about changing the tools your using to work on it with. At this point I would probably recommended you using this:

It's the keyboard controller, used to be a seperate socketed chip ($5~5minute replacement) most are now integrated. so the big fromage has the right idea.

The only possible fixable thing has to do with the keyboard socket, sometimes the solder joints crack, but since the USB doesn't work thats unlikely the cause.

I've fixed a couple computers with a "Ford tool" like Cheezy posted.
