I'm not talking insta burn. I'm a firm beliver that the increased voltage over time is a negative. That is what I meant. I'm not opposed to overclocking a little if you know what your doing and it is for your own use and you can afford to loose that piece of hardware. That way you or someone else isn't super pissed if something goes wrong.

Well that sure is not what you said. This is what you said

Oh shucks, I guess I should drop my 1.47GHz down from 2.4GHz to 1.7GHz then. Running it at 1.75v instead of 1.60v might shave the lifespan down from twenty years to fifteen, I still want that chip in twenty years!

Oh shucks, it was a comment directed at someone who sounded a little green to me and building a puter for someone other than himself. I thought it best to help him and give him fair warning. So shove it.

Nah don't worry about me, I was just pointing out that for the commonly OCed AMD CPU's. I've always used intel for newbie reasons, and I OC'd this one from 3.0 to 3.4Ghz. I'm just gonna have to do some research on it AFTER I get it built. For now it's not my main concern.

I'm also trying to find a good guide to installing the heatsink with the goop. I've never built a nonstock hsf computer.

The stuff came, and yes there is already a problem. Couple actually Bang Head Also the Compaq Presario case is being picky about giving me back my floppy/CD drives. Damn they have those clips at the side down tight.

Questions

1.) The wire that came with the heatsink to hold the 80mm fan and heatsink together seems to be much too short to connect. Pictures:

Am I supposed to bend the wire or something? cause I don't see where this fits.

2.) How do I apply this goop? Is there a good guide that anyone can refer me to? Also did you guys "lap"(wipe off the chip/heatsink with a non-lint rag before you applied the goop?

Not too sure what to tell you about the fan clips they look like they should work to me.

As for the thermal goop. You need a very thin layer and I do mean THIN. This is one of those areas where more is not a good thing. I put a tiny dab about the size of a pencil lead on the cpu core and then use a piece of a clean plastic baggie over my finger tip to spread it out as even as I can get it. You want it so thin it is almost transparent.

So you did bend/stretch them BB? Because right now the wires don't look like that at all. Also, do you want the fan blowing on the CPU or out? Also, I have the front of the case intaking air, and the back blowing air out. Is this correct?

Thanks for the tips guys.

Just about all HSF are set up to have air blown onto them rather than sucking away from them the only exception I know of are many of the Alpha brand HSF.

Yes lower front intake and higher rear exhaust is proper and pretty standard layout for case cooling.
