Stupid question but as I read your description I see this isn't clear, did you remove encryption off both ends or just the laptop? As far as the fade in out thing if your running windows xp there are some forums out there that talk about mysteriously dropping your connection if your using the built in windows XP (pre SP2) wifi connector.
Article
I've noticed similar happenings on my home router, but ditching the xp thing seemed to work. _________________ Jinsei to uchuu to subete no koate wa.. yonjuuni |

i am running 2 labtops and 2 desktops off my Linksys Wirless B router and no problems. 1 Desltop has a wirless external reciver as well. I am runnign 128 bit Encyption as well so i have no clue as what could be wrong here are some suggestions...
1.) make Sure the router is in a high point a room.
2.) Make sure there is no interference with the router as in electrical interference and all of that, as in not on the top of your monitor, next to speakers or to close to a T.V just in case.
3.) Have ou tried another Reciver eeither a 2nd wireless PCI card in the Labtop and or another Computer connected wirelessly??
Also Where i live Each Household is not allowed to have more then 1 IP Per household unless you pay extra. What provider is it?? Comcast?? _________________

Well we reinstalled the network adapter on the laptop and it works fine. For some reason it got corrupt or something in the 20 mins we were working with it?????? anyways we found it wasnt the router when another laptop hooked up to it fine. Encryption wasnt an issue because the house has so many acres of land around it someone would have to park near their front door just to even detect it. but the house is also so big we have to install range extenders to cover the whole place and then we will probally put on the encryption since it will boost it a decent bit. we also took it off for the time cuz we quoted the guy at an hour and a half of work per job and we had already been there 2 hours. And Dud3! Linksys = Cisco ; Cisco is d'bomb |

You won't get me to agree with you on Linksys Paul, sorry. _________________ Due to a not-that-interesting turn of events, I am now known as Justin Danger. |

I have been dealign with All Lyksis materials and have yet to have any y kind of problem that doesn;t dealing with going into my comand promt and sayign IPconfig/Release and Renew.
Also i would recomend encryption just for the pur fact that if someone does go by your house and finds out that its unencrypted someone could camp ther waiting for you to cbuy somethign online or what ever. I don;t trust things goign over the air without encryption.
I read a study of a guy who went into D.C. the nations capital and he drove down the road and had interent access in somehtign liek 50-75% of the city cause they didn;t lock the networks downa nd some were even unencrypted. All it takes is a reciver and your toast. _________________
