Hey guys. I have a linksys router and a Zyxel modem/router. I figured out how to forward ports to my computer to host Warcraft 3 and other games. The problem is to do this I have to disconnect my linksys router to change the settings. The ip for the linksys router is 192.168.1.1 but that's also the same for the zyxel modem/router. Without disconnecting the router can I bypass the router and connect to the modem configuration page? Like is there a format like 192.168.1.1;196.168.1.1 or something? Any knowledge would be great.

What your going to do is forward the port via your router, not your modem. To access to router settings, simply type in http://192.168.1.1 , and if your router is similar to my linksys, leave the username blank and the pass will be 'admin'.

From the router configuration page, you have two options. You can either put your computer into DMZ, or you can forward the correct ports to your specific IP address.

You'll want to forward to your internal network IP. Chances are it will be 192.168.1.2 or 192.168.1.3. To figure it out if your unsure you can check the hosts table in your router settings or simply go into command prompt and type in "ipconfig". I don't recall exactly where in the router settings you'll find port forwarding, but it should be labeled rather well, just surf around.

DMZ is the equivilent of forwarding all incoming requests to your computer, and I'd advise against it. It leaves your computer at a lot more risk, expecially if your not running a proper firewall/anti-virus. BUT, if you can't seem to get your port's to forward correctly, it may be an option for you. Last option, however, in my opinion.

I hope I hit the problem properly, it was a bit hard to figure out what exactly was wrong from your post. Wave

You can't have two devices on the network with the same IP address.

Why do you have two routers?

you can bridge your modem if it has an internal router and change the ip of your linksys router. This was necessary with the classic DSL modems that sported routers. I prefered my linksys to the internal router in my dsl modem so I bridged it and used my linksys instead. There should be some settings in the modem/router to set it to bridged. If you can't find it, contact your ISP provider and they should be able to help you.
