I have posted this question on two other forums ([H] and IANAG) and so far nobody can give me a solution. Right now I think it is probably not possible but I thought I'd give it one more try. Here it is.

I want to set up automatic client-side redirecting. What I mean by this is that I want to be able to set up a table with URLs paired to the URL I want to go to INSTEAD when I type that URL into my browser. The solution can be browser independant or dependant, but if it is browser dependant I want the solution for firefox.

For example:
1. I type in www.tvguide.com and instead I go to online.tvguide.com/listings.
2. I type in bigbruin.com and instead I go to http://www.bigbruin.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=2
3. I type in flash and I go to my flash drive (D: )
etc, etc...

People have already suggested using the hosts file or lmhosts file in some way but as far as I or anyone else can tell they can't do that.

My idea was to set up a local DNS server but so far I haven't been able to figure out how to do that and no one has been able to tell me...

Well.... I can think of a way, but it involves running a webserver on your network/local machine in combination with a hosts file.

Basically you would take and redirect those urls (such as bigbruin.com) to a local webserver. On that server you would need to run virtual sites. And then from there depending on which webserver you're running you would either have to set up the server to just redirect that url or have a webpage set up that does the re-direct.

Personally I think bookmarks would be eaiser Grin

BTW, DNS, LMHOST & Host files are only for resolving a name to an IP address. So they could never work for what you want to do.

I agree with Cheese. Use the big button style bookmarks underneath the address line in Firefox for these links. What you're asking requires a proxy server to perform redirects and unless you feel like setting up a proxy server, bookmarks are easier.

Bookmarks aren't an option Grin
But thanks for that, is that the only way? I do run Apache...

Good find PMG (Just goes to show... come to BB for help... don't waste your time on the other places Grin). I think I might start using some of those.

I had also assumed for some reason you were going to be doing this for mutiple clients so I figured you were looking at more of a network solution instead of a client solution considering you said bookmarks wasn't an option.
