Need your advice regarding upgrade of my 4.1 Speakers Set

Hi guys!

I own an Altec Lansing AVS500 4.1 Speakers Set for almost 4 years.

I don't consider myself as an audiophille and I'm quite satisfied with my current set.

But...I just saw a deal in a local computer store where I can get the Logitech X-530 5.1 Speakers Set for $75. Usually the price is Israel for this set is like $100. Yikes

So I'm thinking about upgrading my current Altec Lansing Set with the Logitech X-530.

My current Altec Lansing set has 7W per Speaker (14W per channel) and 14W for the Sub-Woofer.

The Logitech Set has 7.4W Per Channel/Speaker, 15.5W for the Center and 25W for the Sub-Woofer.

Will it really be an upgrade (or maybe a downgrade)? Rolling Eyes

Will I see any difference/improvement? Rolling Eyes

In general, will it be a wise choice, or will it be just a waste of money and should I stay with my current Speakers Set? Rolling Eyes

Judging by the reviews, I think it would be an upgrade, whether it's worth $75 is a question only you can answer.

Are you unhappy with your current speakers? If so, why? Are these speakers primarily for gaming, music or movies? If you use them mostly for gaming I wouldn't bother switching. When it comes to music you could definitely do a lot better, but then even the x-530's are probably at the bottom end. For movies, it's a toss up, but the addition of a center channel would probably help.

One advantage of going 5.1 is you do get that center-front speaker where, IIRC, dialog in movies and games are outputted.

You might also want to check if you current sound card/chip is already maxed out by your Altec or can be put to better use by the Logitech...

OK guys. I ended up buying today the Logitech X-530 Speakers Set. Grin

And...they ROCK!!! The sound they make is much better than my previous Altec Lansing AVS500 4.1. Smile

And don't forget that now I have 5.1 instead of 4.1. That additional Center adds A LOT to the sound/atmosphere mainly when watchig movies. Wink

Also the sub has much deeper bass! Grin

I mainly game on the PC, while I watch movies mainly in my living room, but sometimes when the wife sleeps, now I'll be able to fully enjoy 5.1 surround (including center) also when watching movies on my PC. Wink

So...I'm happy I think I made the right choice... Smile

Sounds like you got a good deal. I still use a Logitech ZX560 4.1 set I've had for maybe eight years now.

Your mobo has a Realtek 889. Seems respectable. But I'm guessing even that ol' Audigy2 will sound better. You'll only know if you try Smile
